Day, Alex

Alex Day (1963-)

Alex Day grew up in the Sydney suburb of Marrickville. Community lay at the centre of his family life and informed the community activities that Alex pursued in his own life. In the 1980s Alex was involved in SWAGS (Southwestern Area Gay Society), which met at the Revesby Workers Club. SWAGS proved to be a great launching pad for CBD (Canterbury Bankstown District Gay and Lesbian Community Group), which was active from the 1990s onwards. In this interview, Alex talks about his years with CBD and later with Coming Out, the community engagement and campaigning that these groups were involved in and their contributions to the Mardi Gras parade.
