Did you raise a family in the Inner West in the 1970s, 80s or 90s?

If you have a story to tell about your family and would like to record your oral history interview, please complete our EOI form below or contact us at projects@pridehistory.org.au

Pride History Group has received a grant from Inner West Council to produce a history of queer families in the Inner West. The project explores the history of the creation of queer families in Sydney’s Inner West in the 1970s, 80s and 90s

Through a series of oral history interviews and historical research, the project celebrates the courage and past struggles of LGBTIQ+ people who created their own families against a backdrop of stigma and systemic discrimination. The aim is to foster pride in the successes of our communities, combat harmful myths, and promote understanding of Inner West queer families. It will add to the richness and complexity of Inner West history and encourage ongoing activism in the fight for full equality and the protection of adults and children in queer families.

The project has a particular focus on lesbian-headed families but will include the experiences of a wide variety of rainbow families. The project will also include the experiences of allies, donors and children. The outcome of the project will be a published booklet.

Depending on interest in the project, we may not be able to record every interview immediately but we will maintain a register of interest and let you know if, and when, we can record your story.
