Garrett Prestage

(1955-)

Garrett Prestage grew up in inner city Sydney. While studying at the University of Sydney, Garrett became involved in the political left: The Australia Party, Labor Club and the Communist Club. He was involved in the establishment of the Active Defence of Homosexuals on Campus (ADHOC). In this interview, Garrett recalls the organising and lead up to the First Mardi Gras, as well as the aftermath of the night's events and the protests that followed. Garrett also talks about his involvement in the Students' Representative Council (SRC) and the National Homosexual Conference. Garrett was also involved in the establishment of Twenty Ten, and throughout his reseach career has worked in the areas of drug and alcohol use and HIV/AIDS education.
